Bill Clinton said, “If we want to keep crime coming down, we need to instill trust in our criminal justice system.”
Could you be part of a system which is at the core of what holds our society together?
You will need to study both federal and state law, how the constitution of the United States works, the components of the criminal justice system, and be familiar with every stage from arrest through the various hearing stages to punishment for the convicted. There will be elements of your course that prepare you for dealing with expert witnesses, understanding the implications of the mental health act, and seeing that the rights of offenders are maintained.
Law is constantly evolving and, if you choose to study it, you will find it a challenging and stimulating career path.
At the end of your criminal justice course, you might consider aiming for the following jobs:
- Paralegal
- Defense attorney
- Public prosecutor
- Judge
- Chief of police
- Private security advisor
- Prison warden
