Franklin D Roosevelt said, “There can be little doubt that in many ways the story of bridge building is the story of civilisation. By it we can readily measure an important part of a people's progress.”

Engineering in all its many forms is a celebration of the understanding of nature’s forces - something which is unique to humans.

If you have a mind which thirsts for understanding and are naturally gifted with math and science, then a branch of engineering is an excellent choice. Your qualification will also put you in high demand with employers.

Depending upon which engineering discipline you study, you could learn how to build major structures like dams, bridges and skyscrapers; fabricate engines, pumps and machinery; or work on circuit boards and microprocessors. Alternatively, you could study naval architecture and produce designs for oil tankers, aircraft carriers and submarines. If you like working with computers, you could be involved in the development of the next generation of Artificial Intelligence machines.
When you have completed your engineering course and depending on the discipline you have taken, the following job options open up to you:

  • Civil engineer
  • Mechanical engineer
  • Electrical engineer
  • Aeronautical engineer
  • Naval engineer
  • Computer engineer
