Nursing and Healthcare

Students interested in healthcare may seek careers in nursing, medical coding and billing, physical therapy, healthcare management, or medical assisting. Typical education programs take from two years to four years to complete, resulting in a certification, associate’s or bachelor’s degree.

Each program curriculum will vary. For example, nursing students will study anatomy, basics of nursing care, physiology, trauma and psychiatry, while medical assisting students will learn medical terminology, laboratory techniques, first aid and medication administration.

Many graduates go on to pursue further education. RNs, for example may take their associate’s degree and turn it into a bachelor’s utilizing a RN to BSN program, or take advantage of a BSN to MSN program. Healthcare management students typically are earning a Master’s degree, and will go on to careers as clinical administrators, hospital department heads or nursing administrators.
