As an Emergency Medical Technician, this will be your maxim. Your interest in medicine and people combined with a burning desire to make an immediate difference will propel you through your studies.
Your EMT course will do all it can to prepare you for what lies ahead. You will learn about human anatomy and physiology, airway management and oxygen administration, trauma and emergency treatment such as defibrillation, plus life-saving procedures. There will be instruction in CPR, splinting, bandaging, dressing and tourniquets, use of ECG machines, spinal immobilization, trauma assessment, coping with blood loss, drug administration and intubation. There will also be coaching in how to handle distressed patients and their families, and respond to often chaotic emergency scenes.
