As you will learn on your pharmacy course, although this still holds true, we've come a long way in the two centuries since then. If you have a good understanding of chemistry and biology, like working with people and want a to get into the more commercial side of medicine, then a Pharmacy course is for you.
Your studies will teach you about pharmaceutics, regulatory science and the physical pharmacy itself. You will learn about drugs; their manufacturing, identification, prescription and dosage. There will be instruction in the different ways in which medication is administered - orally, parenterally, transdermally etc - and also the ways in which new drugs are discovered, tested, and approved prior to their general availability. There will also be a relevant business element to the course, preparing you to work in a commercial environment.
