Marcello Malpighi, the 17th century Italian surgeon, said, "Surgical knowledge depends on long practice, not from speculations."

That's what your Surgical Technician's Course will teach you.

If you can combine a keen interest in anatomy and medicine with physical dexterity and an ability to concentrate, then a Surgical Technician Course could be the right choice for you.

You will be taught human biology, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, surgical technology, pharmacology and psychology. There will also be instruction in ethics, operating theater procedures, surgical techniques, sterilization and handling of instruments. You will be shown how to prepare the patient for surgery, administer anesthetic, operate the suction devices and monitor vital signs during procedures.

There are possibilities for specializations into such fields as neurosurgery or organ transplant. With an ever-increasing demand for operations, the Surgical Technician is well-placed to absorb many of the surgeon's duties.

On successful completion of your Surgical Technician course, you could consider a career as a:

  • Operating Theater Assistant
  • Surgical Technologist
  • Medical Practice Technician
  • Organ Transplant Assistant
  • Patient Care Center Worker
