The Scottish vet and author James Herriot said, "Animals are an obligation put on us, a responsibility we have no right to neglect, nor to violate by cruelty."
Is this a belief you hold close to your heart? Can you separate sentimentality from care and practicality? Do you have a good working knowledge of biology? If so, you have the potential to be a vet.
Your Veterinary course will take you through the specifics of animal biology, anatomy and physiology, teach you about diseases and parasites affecting livestock, show you how to care for domestic, husbanded, and wild animals, coach you in genetics and instruct you in diagnosis of illness, drug prescription and administering of treatment. You will also learn about animal nutrition and surgery. You will receive instruction in basic business management in order to prepare you for commercial operations as a vet or a consultant.
On successful completion of your Veterinary course, you could consider a career as a:
- Veterinary Medicine Practitioner
- Ranch Manager
- County Extension Agent
- Agricultural Feed Representative
- Animal Regulatory Officer
